It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Dave Hervey, a longtime friend of the Foundation and Washington Park Arboretum. He died at home last week after a long battle with cancer, with his family by his side.

Originally from Nebraska, Dave had a 38-year-long career at Boeing as a mechanical engineer. After retirement, he served 14 years on the board of directors of the Arboretum Foundation, including three years as president. He was a key figure during the creation and adoption of the 2001 Arboretum Master Plan.

With his wife, Mary Joan, David was also a long-time member of Arboretum Foundation Unit 52—the Couples Unit—which for many years provided key logistical and volunteer support to the Arboretum Foundation plant sale.

Dave is survived Mary Joan, their children Christine Price, John David Hervey, Meg Allison Harry, and Andrew W. B. Hervey, and ten grandchildren. His daughter, Meg, is also a close friend of the Arboretum, and currently serves as a member of our board.
