The Arboretum’s display, “Under the Mediterranean Sun,” was awarded a Silver Medal from the show judges at this week’s Northwest Flower & Garden Festival.
Taking its cue from the Festival’s “Gardens of the World” theme, the display captures the age-old charm, warmth, and restfulness of a traditional courtyard garden in the Mediterranean region, complete with tiered stone fountain. It was inspired by the strong connection that exists between the Mediterranean and the Arboretum’s collection: Plants from 17 of the 22 countries that touch the Mediterranean Sea can be found here.
Congratulations to our designers Bob Lilly, Phil Wood, and Roger Williams, as well as to the other members of our design team: Barbara Bonjour, Alyssa Henry, Meaghan Kapinos, Joanna Long, and Jane Stonecipher!
Thanks to everyone who made the garden possible, including our partners at UW Botanic Gardens and Seattle Parks and Recreation and our hard-working garden volunteers. Special thanks to Sky Nursery for the loan of the beautiful fountain and to Ragen & Associates for letting us borrow the large clay planter pots.
See our display and 19 other wonderful “Gardens of the World” at the NW Flower & Garden Festival this week and weekend (February 20 to 24).
