Giving Tuesday is a global day of radical generosity and community celebration, dedicated to the power of giving back to the causes and organizations that help our world become a kinder place. This year—in the spirit of this event—the Arboretum Foundation hosted a free, virtual, behind-the-greens Zoom event, connecting you, our community, to the Arboretum in a deeper, more meaningful way.

Conifers of the Arboretum

The Pacific Northwest is synonymous with conifers. We live in the Evergreen State and are surrounded every day by coniferous trees. Did you know you can smell chocolate in the bark of a Ponderosa pine, or citrus in the leaves of an incense cedar? Conifers have leaves that come in every shade of green and cones that range from the size of a pea to a football.

As you settle in for a cozy fall and winter, UW Botanic Gardens tour guide Cynthia Welte highlights coniferous trees in our prized plant collection and inspires you to get out, explore, and look more closely at the conifers of the Arboretum.
